Stroud District Council

The Industrial Heritage Conservation Area: what the parishes say

INITIAL PUBLIC CONSULTATION
1st SEPTEMBER TO 31st OCTOBER 2006

During autumn last year, some early stakeholder and community engagement was carried out, in advance of producing draft documents in 2007. Here you can find out what your Town or Parish Council thinks about the conservation area review and, specifically, the ways they envisage the Management Proposals SPD affecting the parish.

Use the following links to see which Parish or Town Councils have made comments about proposed boundary changes, or have investigated Issues and Pressures as part of this consultation process. Please note that comments made by Town and Parish Councils via the online questionnaire are not included below. The following information was received separately.

Boundary Changes

So far, the District Council’s review has identified several points in the study area where boundary changes may be appropriate. You can view these initial proposals by clicking on the link below, which will take you to a list of the boundary changes, together with explanations.

Issues and Pressures

Have a look at our Issues and Pressures Issues and Pressures

What do you think about the issues and pressures we have identified so far? Please let us know if you have spotted any parts of the study area where these sorts of things are particularly prevalent, or where they are really affecting the character or appearance of the IHCA or any of the seven other conservation areas in the study area. Have we missed anything?

Use the links below to find out how the Town and Parish Councils commented on the issues so far identified, and find out whether they have identified anything further, which may need addressing in the policies and design guidance we will be formulating:

Letter outlining Bisley P.C.'s concerns and aspirations for the canal corridor and IHCA, and how the parish council envisages the canal restoration affecting the conservation area's character and appearance.

Initial Consultation background

This consultation consists of early stakeholder and community engagement. The new planning system places much greater emphasis on community engagement and getting local people and stakeholders involved in the planning process. Rather than simply producing a draft document and then asking for comments, we are looking for people’s focussed views and observations up front, at the start of the process. This way, the end product responds much more directly to the aspirations and concerns of the District’s population.

Consequently, there is no complete draft for you to comment on at this stage. To find out when this will be available, please see the current timetable for the SPD production.
