Search the Decision Register for Decision Notices.
This page is designed for solicitors, conveyancers and homeowners to research planning history and obtain copies of decision notices. As our planning register dates back to 1947, there are many formats, maps and registers to interrogate. This has made computerisation problematic and not wholly automated. Guidance on how to use the system is given below. Recent decision notices are not held here, but are on the
Planning On-Line part of the site.
This is a free service. If you wish the Business Support Unit to search the records for you, they will be pleased to help - there will however be a fee that is proportional to the time taken.
Basic Searches:
If you have received a land charge search, or know your site number (not to be confused with the case number which usually starts "S.") just type it in the first box, without any "/" or letters (for example 1234), and click submit. You will then be offered one or more Adobe Acrobat (PDF) documents that contain the decision notices. Click on one to open it. If you have a recent version of Acrobat on your PC, it will also search for that number in the PDF document.
The PDF documents are in numeric order, so if the copy is so poor it could not be searched, just leaf through the book in the traditional way to find what you are looking for.
For those who only know the address, please type in a postcode (or one in the vicinity) and again click submit. You will then be offered a list of addresses from our street gazetteer that matches the postcode. Click on the appropriate one to move to the maps. Please note the comments on advanced maps below.
You will be presented with a 'picture' of a paper made with handwritten site numbers and more recent computer generated numbers. This map may be out of date, particularly where new estates have been built, however the numbers on the screen are still relevant. By entering the appropriate number(s) into the query box at the top of the maps screen you will be offered the PDF documents as described above.
Advanced Searches:
There are problems with large estates in that the site number may cover many properties. If you are searching for a particular property, click new search in offered Acrobat document, and type in some of the address. (Remember the more information you give the narrower the search, which with old data may be a problem) Also be aware that property names often change with ownership. The decision notice will refer to how a property was known on the day of decision.
Advanced Maps
In areas of high density and/or growth it was necessary to use insert maps. These are normally marked with a big cross on the base map. In this case follow the notes on screen to open the insert map. Unfortunately these are not linked to the address search feature and you will need to move and zoom the map to the correct area.
Future Development
To transfer all the hand written numbers to a computer and map database will be very costly and time consuming and does not currently offer value for money. As new technology develops we will review this service.
