Local Democracy

Democracy was famously described as "government of the people, by the people, for the people" by Abraham Lincoln. Local knowledge is an important part of this equation, and this area of the website gives you links to some of that necessary knowledge.

Here you will find information about your District Council in action including:

An important part of local democracy is the involvement of the electorate in the democratic process. Visit the elections and voting pages to gain easy access to the forms you need to ensure that you are registered to vote. During local and national elections, the necessary information regarding candidates and results will be posted to this area.

As well as the conventional path to making your voice heard, various electronic community participation schemes have recently started, including the BBC Action Network website. Stroud District Council is working in partnership with the BBC over this project, giving a wider meaning to 'local democracy' than the conventional political path and for further information visit our Action Network web page.
