On Sunday 29th March over 54 families from around the Stroud District participated in the Generation Games organised by Stroud District Council. The games provided the families who had applied the opportunity to take part in the day a variety of activities including circus skills, climbing wall, archery, aerobics, roller skating, Frisbee and Sportshall athletics.
The event was attended by Sporting Champion Jenny Copnall who said “Attending the Generation Games on behalf of Sporting Champions was a great experience. I am a firm believer that there is (at least) one sport out there for every one of us, one that we will gain us great health, pleasure and excitement throughout our lives. Today, youngsters and their parents have been able to sample a range of activities that they have likely never tried before. Each activity utilised a different skill set meaning that everyone found some activities well suited to them, and other activities much more challenging. What better way to realise each of our unique abilities while having a thoroughly enjoyable family day out on the first warm sunny day of the year? Here's to a happy, healthy and active year for all those who attended."
This is the first year the Generation Games has run and feedback from some of the participants who took part said “ Please do it again- a great idea”, “ A great day, when is the next one”,” Brilliant Fun for all the family” and “ Fantastic day will definitely try events I have sampled today, it has exceeded our expectations”
Hannah Drew, Sports Development Officer said “It was great to see so many families participating in activities together and encouraging each other during the day. The day had a great atmosphere and thanks must go to all the local deliverers and volunteers who helped to make the games a success”
