CSPAN

The Community Sport and Physical Activity Network for the Stroud district (CSPAN Stroud) brings together a wide range of statutory agencies, organisations, community groups and key individuals to effectively have one collective voice for sport and physical activity across the district.

CSPAN Stroud core group has been established to steer and oversee the development and delivery of an action plan for sport and physical activity across the Stroud district, with the collective aim of increasing access and participation levels by 1% per year.

CSPAN Stroud District will work in partnership to;

  • Ensure that the Active People participation data is included/analysed to enable targeting of hard to reach groups/individuals, older people, under achievers, women and disabled people
  • Consult, map and engage with targeted priority groups
  • Ensure that an innovative range of sport and physical activity project opportunities are available to all people across the district
  • Strengthen existing/new links between existing statutory agencies, voluntary groups and community based organisations/individuals
  • Strengthen communication channels to raise the profile/awareness of new and existing opportunities/initiatives

Organisation

  • The Group will meet on a regular basis whilst creating the action plan, once completed, the core/steering group will meet bi-annually thereafter (Oct 08, Jan 09, Oct 09 and so on) to drive and monitor the action plan
  • The Group will be serviced by Stroud District Council and Active Gloucestershire
  • The group is a sub group of and will be accountable to the Stroud Health and Wellbeing Forum and Stroud District Local Strategic Partnership

Vision

Working together to improve sport and physical activity opportunities across the Stroud District

Purpose

To identify local needs, priorities and potential interventions and develop a locally shared vision and action plan which has the committed support of key local partners

Objectives

  • To bring together local partners and key stakeholders to create a shared vision for sport and physical activity across the Stroud District
  • To provide effective leadership and co-ordination for new sport and physical activity opportunities
  • To plan, deliver and monitor a variety of new sport and physical activity projects, funding, targets and performance indicators
  • To avoid duplication of projects and ensure the best use of resources from all partners
  • To advocate the benefits of sport and physical activity across all sectors and influence strategic decision making, funding opportunities and increase participation rates
  • To strengthen existing and create solid support structures for new and innovative sport and physical activity projects
  • To respond to requests from the Stroud Strategic Partnership and similar forum groups

Strategic outcomes

  • Participation - To increase children, young people and adult (16+) participation in sport and physical activity
  • Mapping/Targeted project outreach - To map existing provision and target hard to reach groups/individuals to develop innovative sport and physical activity projects
  • Volunteering - To improve the structure, education and support system to enhance and increase the numbers of people volunteering in sport and physical activity
  • Recognition/Profile Raising - To recognise, celebrate and create funding opportunities for our talented sports performers, their coaches/parents and community development clubs
  • Access/Awareness - To market and improve awareness and access to sport and physical activity opportunities

Membership

Core membership will include key stakeholders (up to 18 ) with a direct role in developing, steering and coordinating the effective delivery of sport and physical activity in the Stroud District.

Sub groups and project groups will be set up or existing ones used in accordance to the priorities being delivered, whereby the delivery of the interventions will take place
