Stroud District Council Sports Development has been working in partnership with Cashes Green Youth Group and Stroud Youth Services to secure funding, and assist in planning part of their summer programme.
The group gained UFA funding from Gloucestershire County Council Out-of-Hours Learning Programme to run a 3 day summer residential at South Cerney. Lead tutor and parent Sam Neale (Head of the Youth Group) and the Stroud District Council Regeneration Through Sport Manager received UFA funding prior to the event, which enabled the group to create peer tutors, news teams and feedback questionnaires.
The aims of the 3 day challenge were constructive use of time, team work, respect for others, learning new skills, responsibility and of course to have fun.
The peer tutors created portfolios of their experiences and the news team created a video. Lead tutors acted as mentors to the group by positive role modelling and introducing new challenges such as a low ropes course and feedback groups. In total, 27 young people and tutors took part in kayaking, canoeing, diving, raft building, walking, swimming and low rope/wall climbing.
Fun was had by all, as can be seen in the pictures below:

The group will be meeting with the vast number of other UFA Summer projects across the County and feeding back their experiences in September 2003 at Gloucester Rugby Club.
