Name: Andy

Job Title: Neighbourhood Warden

What made you apply for the position?

The position of a Neighbourhood Warden appealed to me because of the diversity of the role and the challenge of working with the local community, being out in the open and meeting people face to face. The flexible working hours making it easy for my work life balance to be achieved.

Outline your typical working day:

Arrive at the Council offices at Ebley Mill and visit the Community Safety office to check my e-mails and receive any messages or correspondence related to my patch.
Drive out to my patch for a high viability foot patrol around the local schools. Liaise with Town council and Police Community Support Officers. Home visits to vulnerable people and litter picks because I take a pride in the communities I work. Coffee morning attended at my local sheltered housing unit for older people. Patrol of local parks checking play equipment. Attend youth clubs, car park inspection, check vehicles for items of value on display, record and inform the Police, and attend the pensioners clubs. To act as the eyes and ears of the community and promote many of the excellent services provided by the District Council, attend local multi agency meetings sharing intelligence gathered with others.

I enjoy seeing the benefits of a multi-agency approach to tackling local issues. Every day is different and I enjoy the dynamic approach needed to make a difference.
