Buying your Council Home

The Right to Buy Scheme is available to all Council tenants who are the secure tenants. If the current tenancy started before 18 January 2005, a tenant needs two years' public sector tenancy time to qualify for Right to Buy. For anyone who becomes a new secure tenant on or after 18 January 2005, five years' as a public sector tenant is needed. Council policy aims to try to exclude sales of bungalows wherever possible, and warden controlled accommodation is exempt from the Right to Buy scheme. The current maximum discount available is £30,000.

The Government has produced an information leaflet called "Your Right To Buy Your Home" and you can download it directly from the Communities and Local Government Website . From the ODPM site you will also have access to Right To Buy information in 10 different languages.
