Keyworker Study

A 'key worker' is someone who works in a key public service and is therefore important to retain in the local community. This includes many employed positions within the teaching and the health, police, fire and rescue and prison service.

The keyworker scheme aims to support keyworkers who cannot afford to buy a property suitable for their household needs within a reasonable travel to work area of their employment. Stroud District Council undertook a survey in 2005 to establish the specifics of housing need for keyworkers in the district. The report concluded that no specific prioritisation for Keyworkers within affordable housing policy was justified.
