Stroud District Council

Gloucestershire Homeseeker

In September 2009 a new system for allocating social housing was introduced for Gloucestershire - Gloucestershire Homeseeker.

This is a different way of letting council and housing association properties, giving you a greater choice and control over where you live.

People who need housing will complete an online application form.  The Housing Teams across the county will still need to approve many of the applications.  You may therefore be asked to provide evidence, such as proof of pregnancy, child benefit, doctors letters and so on.

Properties will be advertised weekly in a similar style to an estate agent.  This means that rather than wait for a property to be offered to you, you will put yourself forward (this is known as bidding) for any available properties advertised.

Gloucestershire Homeseeker does not mean that there are any more homes available.  The new system will mean that:

  • you will decide if you want to apply for a property
  • there will be one register for the whole County
  • better information will be provided about the property and the neighbourhood
  • local connection to your 'home authority' will still apply to 90% of
    all properties advertised.
  • the rules will be simpler than the current points system

Please got to the website to apply for housing, for more information, and FAQs on Gloucestershire Homeseeker.
