History Tours!

We are now offering Tours of Ebley Mill to Schools and Community Groups.

For Schools

Aimed at Key Stage 2, the tour starts in the classroom 2 weeks beforehand, when we will deliver a box of clues. Children can then spend time working out how each clue links to the Ebley Mill Building.

On the day of your tour, you will assemble in the Council Chamber, and watch a short film about the mill industry, followed by a tour of the building, finding out as you go, making notes and sketches.

After seeing the building and hearing its stories and historic facts, there is a chance to meet some of the staff who work here today, and compare the jobs they do today to those who have worked here in the past.

'What a great way to bring history alive!'

Sample work

The felt picture of Ebley Mill was made by Nicholas Hodsman of Nailsworth Primary School. Stroudwater Textile Trust's Jane Ford led the feltmaking workshop, as a follow up to the Ebley Tour with us.

For Community Groups

We offer a range of tour opportunities for Cubs and Brownies etc to learn more about Ebley Mill and the local area, ranging from playing pooh sticks along the river, to finding out more about the Gloucestershire Flag and the Stroud Coat of Arms. We can tailor the tour to meet some of the criteria for activity badges, such as the Cubs Local Knowledge badge etc.
