Where are the local Nature Sanctuaries?

Prinknash Bird Park, Prinknash Park, Nr Cranham, Glos

Prinknash Bird Park, adjoining Prinknash Abbey, provides a wonderful day out for families. Young children in particular will enjoy feeding the animals housed here. 'Bird Park' does not really do Prinknash justice, as not only arc there Snow Geese, Bar Headed Geese from China, Red fallow deer, or the fun loving mischievous African Pygmy Goats. Or invest in a bag of fish food at the Monk's Pond and watch the water boil with fish.



Open: All year, daily 10.00 - 17.00 (last admission) Summer. 10.00 - 16.00 Winter. (Closed Good Friday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day).



Admission: Adults £3.60, Children £1.90, SC £2.70, party rates for groups of 10+. Adults £2.80; SC £1.80; Children £1.60

The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust, Slimbridge

Founded in 1946 by the late Sir Peter Scott. The WWT works to conserve the wetlands and their wildlife. This internationally important reserve on the banks of the River Severn has the worlds largest collection of exotic, rare and endangered geese, ducks and swans. Visitors can wander through acres of landscaped grounds, following a variety of trails and take in the Tropical House and Sustainable Garden along the Way. The new Visitor Centre has exceptional facilities, with an observation tower, cinema, hand's on discovery centre, wildlife art gallery, restaurant and gift shop. A good all weather experience.



Open: All year except Christmas Day. Daily from 9.30 to 17.00 (16.00 winter).



Admission: Adult £6.00. Child £3.60. Concessions £4.80. Family Ticket (2 adults, 2 children) £15.60. School groups etc. - Child £2.90, Carers FREE. (Prices are based on 2001 and are subject to change).
