Gloucestershire County Council operates two Household Waste Recycling Centres in the Stroud area.
These sites accept a wide variety of materials for recycling including, paper, cardboard, textiles, garden waste, plastic bottles, engine oil, vegetable oil, lightbulbs (traditional and energy efficient), fluorescent tubes, beverage cartons, glass, metal, wood & timber, batteries. Coupled with this you can also take waste for landfill and rubble.
From Sunday 28th March 2010 Gloucestershire County Council changed the opening hours at the 5 Gloucestershire County Council Household Recycling Centres (HRCs) including the site at Horsley.
New opening times: 9.00am - 6.15pm Monday to Sunday*. These hours will stay the same all year round.
*except Christmas Day and New Years Day
Please also note that there have been new roadworks constructed at the Horsley site - every effort is being made to limit disruption.

Why do I need to book an appointment to go to an HWRC if I drive a van or tow a large trailer?
![]()
It is necessary to book an appointment to bring a van, pick-up or vehicle with a trailer to any of Gloucestershire county Council's Household Recycling Centres. Small trailers with a load space up to 6ft by 4ft do not need to book. This is because HWRCs are only able to accept domestic waste and not that arising from businesses. These restrictions aim to reduce the number of traders using the site. By ringing Gloucestershire County Council on 0845 602 9344, you can book an appointment to visit the site the following day."
