Refuse and Recycling Collection Day Changes

From 1 June 2010, waste and recycling collection days will change for around half of all households in the district. Collection routes for waste and recycling are changing as larger recycling vehicles replace smaller ones.  The changes will help us to reduce fuel usage and CO2 emissions.

New recycling calendars showing the changes have been delivered, so you should have yours by now. If you have not received one, please email recycling@stroud.gov.uk or call 01453 754424.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my recycling/refuse day change immediately?

No, your collections will continue as normal until the end of May.  Your first collection in June will reflect any changes you may have been notified of.

My day is changing on the 1 June.  What do I do until June?

Please continue to put your refuse and recycling out on your current collection day.

What is changing?

There are no changes to what we collect and how often we collect it.  The service stays the same.  Refuse is collected weekly, and recycling fortnightly.  The only thing changing is some people's collection day.

How will I know when my collection day is?

Calendars listing recycling dates and informing residents of any changes to their collection day are being delivered to householders throughout May.  If you have not received your calendar by May 26 please email us at recycling@stroud.gov.uk or contact us on 01453 754424.  Posters, adverts and press releases will also be used to highlight the changes taking place.

Why can't we stay as we are?

The round changes have a number of benefits.  The main one being that larger capacity vehicles will allow more waste to be transported per journey and have an increased reach across the district.  This will substantially reduce the total number of miles travelled making the new collection rounds more environmentally friendly.

Will I be able to recycle cardboard/mixed plastics?

No.  We are currently looking at how we can collect cardboard and other materials in the future.
