Stroud District Council

The Real Nappies Scheme

Nappies All of the Districts across Gloucestershire currently run a Real Nappy Voucher Scheme, giving residents a financial incentive to make the switch from disposable nappies to re-usable ones.

Interesting Nappy facts......

  • Everyday 86,000 disposal nappies are sent to landfill from the residents of Gloucestershire County. Across the UK this equates to 8 million everyday.
  • From birth to potty, a baby will use around 5,000 disposable nappies which equates to about ½ a tonne.
  • It is estimated that disposable nappies could take around 500 years to break down. If Henry VIII had worn them they would still not have broken down yet!
  • Savings from using cloth nappies instead of disposables can amount to £600 for the first baby alone.
