Service Standards Policy

The Environmental Health Service is responsible for protecting and improving the health, safety and welfare of local residents, visitors and people who work in the District. It is our aim to provide a high quality of service and an important aspect of this is dealing with service requests within a reasonable and appropriate time. You will find details of the maximum response times which the Council have set for the delivery of the Environmental Health Service below.

The following are the target response times for a range of our services and whilst we cannot guarantee to meet them in every instance it is our aim to achieve these targets in the majority of cases. For example, in 2002/03 we dealt with 6560 general service requests and 6360 (98%) were dealt with on target.

Service Requests Generally

As a general policy all service requests, which include general requests for information, will have an initial response within 3 working days. 'Initial response' means the person who has approached us will be contacted by a member of staff who can deal with their request and tell them what action we will take.

Disabled Facilities Grants

For enquiries concerning these grants we will carry out our assessment and notify customers of the outcome within 28 days of receiving the initial referral from the Occupational Therapist.

Licences

We will issue all licences associated with entertainment and animal welfare and scrap metal dealers within 7 working days of receipt of all information from the applicant and all consultees. Zoo licences will be issued within 14 days.

Stray Dogs

We will respond to reports of stray dog within 1 working day.

Noise Nuisances from Intruder Alarms

We will respond to complaints on the same day.

Pest Control

  • Treatment requests for rats and mice in domestic premises will be visited within 3 working days.
  • Treatment requests for rats, mice and pigeons in commercial premises will be visited within 7 days.
  • Treatment requests for insects classed as being of a public health significance will be visited within 3 working days.
  • Treatment requests for insects classed as NOT being of a public health significance will be visited within 7 working days.
  • Visits for pest control contracts will take place within 7 days of the scheduled date and quotation requests for pest control contracts will be provided within 7 days.
  • Requests for insect identification will be dealt with within 7 days.
