Political structure of the council

Political Structure

There are 51 District Councillors who represent different parts of the District called "wards". There are 30 wards; some have one District Councillor, some have two and some have three, depending on the number of electors represented.

Registered electors in these wards vote to choose their District Councillors who each serve for a four year term of office.

The political make-up of the Council is:

Conservative Group - 31

Labour Group - 7

Liberal Democrat Group - 5

Green Group - 6

Independent - 1

Independent (no group) - 1

The Conservative Group has overall control.
