Electoral Services

We are responsible for the administration of all elections within the District Council area as well as Parliamentary and European elections. This involves:

  • dealing with nominations of candidates
  • producing ballot papers
  • producing poll cards
  • booking premises to use as polling stations
  • recruiting and selecting staff to work at the polling stations or to count the votes
  • issuing postal votes and proxy poll card
  • counting the votes

In addition to this, we are responsible for producing and maintaining the electoral register.

Our aim is to encourage all members of the public to participate in the electoral process.

Answer your queries as quickly, efficiently and helpfully as possible. Our targets are to:

  • Answer 98% of telephone calls within 3 rings
  • Acknowledge letters and e-mails within 1 working day
  • Reply to all letters and e-mails within 4 working days
  • Attend to personal callers immediately

We try to resolve issues within these time-scales wherever possible. If you are unhappy with the service you receive, please let us know.

Complaints and Feedback

If you have a complaint we will do our best to put things right wherever possible. We will be more than happy to listen to you. In addition, any feedback that you want to give us can help improve our service to the whole district. An outside opinion will often lead to improvements that we have overlooked.
