The electoral register is compiled by every Council and contains the names and addresses of everyone who is eligible to vote. It is built from the information supplied at the annual Canvass during September/October (when forms are delivered to every household) and updated from further information supplied throughout the year.
Two separate Registers are published - a Full Register containing the names and addresses of every elector, to which there is restricted access, and an Edited Register containing only the details of those who have not 'opted out'.
The Full Register can only be sold to those organisations named by law. This includes credit reference agencies who can only use the Register for this purpose.
The Edited Register is available for purchase by anyone for any purpose, including direct marketing. If you have 'opted-out' by ticking the appropriate box on your registration form, your name and address will not appear on this register.

The Full Register can still be viewed by anyone, but copying of it is only allowed by means of hand-written notes. It is a criminal offence to do otherwise. Registers are available at the Council offices in Ebley Mill, Westward Road, Stroud. They are organized by address order, not as an alphabetical listing of names. As the register can only be viewed under supervision, please contact us to make an appointment by emailing elections@stroud.gov.uk or telephoning 01453 754886
