Beacon Council

Stroud District Council has been awarded the coveted Beacon status for a second time - for Services for Older People. The award is independent proof that the Council is one of the best in the country.

Although the award has gone to Stroud and Cotswold District Councils, the bid to the Government involved several other bodies - including Gloucestershire Social Services and the Cotswolds and Vale Primary Care Trust. The voluntary sector, with groups such as Care and Repair, was also heavily involved. There is a huge range of potential help available to older people - various benefits, energy efficiency grants, improvement grants, house repairs, crime prevention measures, Careline alarms, health care, day care, travel tokens, dial-a-ride.

The links in the navigation bar provide information on our services to older people, this Beacon bid, and our sharing of best practice.
