The amount of Council Tax that you have to pay is determined by the 'banding' that is allocated to your property. You can find which band your property comes under by checking on your Council Tax bill, or on-line.

Each property falls within one of the eight bands as follows:-
| BAND | PROPERTY VALUES AS AT 01-APR-1991 |
| A | Up to £40,000 |
| B | Over £40,000 and up to £52,000 |
| C | Over £52,000 and up to £68,000 |
| D | Over £68,000 and up to £88,000 |
| E | Over £88,000 and up to £120,000 |
| F | Over £120,000 and up to £160,000 |
| G | Over £160,000 and up to £320,000 |
| H | Over £320,000 |
The banding is assessed by the District Valuer, who is part of the Inland Revenue, and not by your Local Council. Once a band has been allocated any improvements and/or alterations made to the property will not alter the banding until the property is sold.
If you disagree with the band that has been applied to your property you may make an appeal to the Valuation Office. In order to appeal against your banding you will need to contact:-
The District Valuer
Valuation Office
Ley Court
Barnett Way
Gloucester GL4 7RT
Telephone: Gloucester (01452) 360200 or visit their website at www.voa.gov.uk
Making an appeal does not allow you to withhold payment of the council tax owing and you should continue to pay your bill.
