Stroud District Council

What the Council is doing for the Environment

Stroud District Council is committed to the environment and has set up an Environmental Strategy Group responsible for environmental improvement, primarily within the Council but also relating to the District as a whole.

The Council is also committed to achieving its objective of improving the energy efficiency of all the housing in the District and is pursuing this through a combination of working in partnership with other agencies, schools and local businesses, as well as provision of grant aid for energy efficiency improvements.

The Council has a good track record in securing external funding for particular home energy efficiency projects, where the long term aim is to clearly communicate the benefits of energy efficiency to householders so that they are motivated to invest in their properties and change their behaviour and use energy more efficiently.

The Council is committed to setting a good example to other organisations. We have put in place an Environmental Policy, which covers all our activities. You can also read about our Green Purchasing Policy and Environmental Management System (EMAS).

Did you know that 98% of Stroud District Council's electricity is supplied from renewable sources? This means that we are making a contribution to reducing global warming.

The Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change

We have demonstrated our commitment to adapting to climate change by signing the Nottingham Declaration. We signed up to it in 2007. To read a copy of the declaration you can download it below:

Summary: This document declares that we acknowledge climate change and commits us to tackling the causes and effects on our district.
