Stroud District Council

Best Value

Best Value is a new way of working for Local Authorities, introduced in the Local Government Act 1999. It is part of the Government's wider modernisation programme designed to bring Councils closer to their communities.

Best Value gives Councils a duty to deliver services to clear standards, both in terms of quality and cost. Services must be delivered by the most effective, economic and efficient means available. It is not about who delivers the service but how well it is provided.

The Council's Best Value Performance Plan (BVPP) is published on an annual basis reporting the Council's performance against national targets. It provides a 'snapshot' of our performance over the last 12 months This Plan is monitored by the Audit Commission to ensure that it meets the statutory requirements. The Audit Commission will also make any recommendations for amendments to the plan to ensure further development and improvement.
